Environmental and Climate Observatory in the United Arab Emirates within the framework of COP28 for SERCO

Further information Further information

On the occasion of COP28 organized in the United Arab Emirates, we have designed an online tool for environmental monitoring of urban areas in two cities: Abu Dhabi and Jubail.

The study focuses on:

1) The environmental state of the territory, including:
  • Measurement of ground temperature in comparison with soil type, observing that the most urbanized areas tend to be the hottest,
  • Air pollution, with an indication of the days exceeding WHO thresholds,
  • Mapping of mangroves and biodiversity in the territory,
  • Water quality.

2) Climate projections for the territory, including:
  • Sea level rise,
  • Temperatures.

The objective of this demonstrator is to show the importance of environmental monitoring in urban areas to preserve the well-being of residents, protect ecosystems, and guide urban development towards a more sustainable and resilient future. It represents a fundamental step in addressing the environmental challenges posed by rapid urbanization and climate change.
