Project funded by the European Space Agency aimed at developing at least four new indicators at the European level, which will then be integrated into various environments supported by the ESA.
Murmuration is developing 3 indicators:
1) Wildlife Biodiversity Indicator:
This indicator aims to create an engaging environment to raise public awareness about biodiversity. Murmuration measures and monitors pressures and health of European ecosystems, taking into account:
Vegetation health to detect stressed areas,
Ecosystem connectivity,
Habitat characterization by IUCN,
Presence of animal and plant species These different indicators are aggregated into a single biodiversity indicator, which assigns a score to each area.
2) Pollution and Urban Heat Island Indicator:
The main objective is to identify areas where the population is vulnerable to air pollution and/or heat waves. This indicator combines:
Identification of at-risk populations,
Accessibility to health infrastructure,
Air pollution,
Urban heat island effects.
3) Real Estate Indicator:
This indicator aims to provide information on thermal vulnerability and the need for renovation work to improve thermal comfort and reduce energy consumption.
It combines data:
Ground temperature measured by thermal satellite imagery,
Building characteristics extracted from the National Building Database (BDNB),
Socio-economic data on population density, age, and social status.
