Impact Study of an Event for HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc

Further information Further information

Calculation of a Trampling Index within the framework of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc event (Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, a mountain race hosting over 2500 participants annually).

The objective of the study is to provide organizers with an assessment of the event's impact on vegetation, primarily affected by trampling from runners and spectators.

To achieve this, Murmuration is developing a trampling indicator based on high-resolution satellite data of vegetation health. Its methodology relies on spatio-temporal comparison of vegetation health between trampled and non-trampled areas.

This allows event organizers to identify stressed areas requiring action (such as spectator regulations or course modifications) and provides insights into vegetation recovery time after the event.
