Murmuration is a Toulouse-based start-up that collects data using satellite images and makes it available to tourism stakeholders for sustainability purposes. After being selected by CNES in a call for projects, the young company aims to develop a solution that defines a threshold for tourist visits to protect sensitive areas or destinations. Interview with Cathy Sahuc, co-founder and COO of Murmuration.

The Toulouse-based start-up Murmuration has just won a contract with CNES to use satellite data to create a map showing the maximum number of tourists a destination can accommodate without deteriorating the environment (air and water quality, vegetation, etc.).

Murmuration is a greentech company that aims to offer its advice and services in the tourism world. Indeed, thanks to their platform for travelers, Flockeo, the pursuit of sustainable tourism continues. Flockeo is a booking site that allows finding ethical and sustainable stays.

Murmuration service provides a way to measure and monitor environmental pressure caused by tourism activities and deliver it to all the stakeholders. Murmuration’s indicators cover different themes: air and atmosphere, water, biodiversity and vegetation, soils and quantification of tourism activity.

Since 2019, Murmuration has been working with stakeholders in the tourism sector to raise awareness of their environmental impact. Communities, professionals, and tourists themselves have the opportunity to visualize the pressures on territories, enabling them to take more effective action.
